When have you felt eager to learn but resistant to how the learning was presented?

I think decades of school systems have shown that the one size fits all/ work hours approach doesn’t work here in the U.S., whether it be SPED or Gen Ed we need to rethink the structure/time spent in classrooms. Our children put in as many hours at school as we do at work and are expected to somehow be excited, engage & retain when most adults can’t even achieve that.

On top of that I feel educators should have more thorough training in Learning Styles/Assessment so they can properly guage what techniques will actually help their students retain the obscene amounts of information they are expected to take in. It may require more effort initially but I feel it will help make the rest of the school year easier for staff and students when they know how to reach their kids & provide genuine help.

I believe that even in your first sentence, you said so much. For decades, the school system hasn’t changed very much—neither in special education nor in general education.

In my opinion, you’re absolutely right that educators need more training in learning styles and assessment to better reach and support their students. Considering the amount of information students are expected to absorb, it’s very sad that the emphasis is often on memorization and regurgitation rather than on true understanding and ownership of knowledge.
